USDA – Federal Grain Inspection

I worked for the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) for nine years and was a Supervisory Physical Scientist (GS-9) managing world-class laboratories used in the certification of grain for national and international trade.

My major responsibility was to manage operations of the three analytical cereal chemistry laboratories that made up the Analytical Services Group. This included:

  • Managing Cross functionality with three other FGIS lab groups and several external US and foreign government labs
  • Collaborated with several private and government labs researching, developing and maintaining existing grain quality control standards and programs
  • Administered Blanket and Open purchase agreements
  • Reviewed and wrote open bid contract requirements to be publication in the Federal Register.

I was a member of the team that designed and oversaw the construction of a new laboratory building.
